**Notes:

Librarians working with children know that they tend to “lose” boys as they move through the latter elementary years, but what’s a librarian to do? Program!

Michael Sullivan will share with you (and fellow staffers) how you can make programs more welcoming to boys. You will also learn what factors effect programs for boys – such as involvement with fathers, choosing the right collections to support programs, the use of storytelling techniques, the different learning styles of boys, library rules (and how they can actually discriminate against boys), and even staff attitudes toward boys and how attitudes can effect boy patronage. Learn how to make those pre-adolescent boys – who are nearly invisible in libraries – want the library (and books) in their lives.
